That’s how Champa was born, a nine year old  girl full of curiosity to see the world beyond the narrow confines of her village and we follow her adventures in the two books – Champa The Punjabi Kudi Discovers the Himalayas and Champa The Dreamer.

Kajol has been a voracious reader since her childhood days and she showed up with her daughter, Nysa and sister Tanisha Mohan for the event. It was awesome learning about her growing up days when both sisters were crazy about Amar Chitra Katha and loved Akbar-Birbal as a bedtime tale.

The book launch at Crossword, Kemps Corner had an impressive  turnout although it was pouring outside. There was a near stampede when the lovely Kajol and Tanisha walked in.Kajol also told the crowd that her daughter Nysa finished reading the Champa book in four hours straight.

Kajol spoke about how she reads bedtime tales to her eight month old son Yug. (Aww.)When asked about hubby Ajay Devgan’s reading habits she quipped humorously that he only reads books that come in recommended.

It was very endearing to hear Kajol speak like a regular, concerned mom. I guess that’s one of the qualities that has made her such a popular star. Such a refreshing exception to the otherwise dolled up, superficial Bolly brigade.

Though neither sibling wore anything blog-worthy (is that a word?), Tanisha’s  bright blue Balenciaga bag caught our eyes and fancies. An illustrated children’s book talking about Indian festivals and culture sounds like an awesome theme and has got even an adult like me very excited. So, Happy reading peeps!
