Hello MissMalini Peeps,

So Freida Pinto‘s been making waves in the press here, there are reports of her success in Hollywood being resented in Bollywood. Perez Hilton even posted about this, and also cites the Ottawa Sun (a Canadian newspaper) as the source. Freida Pinto has said several times in the past that she has not found a good Bollywood script yet. Noted Bollywood directors have taken issue with this, pointing out that her Hollywood choices have not been stellar either. Also, she mentions she wants to learn more and come back to India and produce films.

My take? It is entirely possible that the scripts she’s been receiving from Bollywood have not been enticing. I mean, when the Miral script came to her from acclaimed director Julian Schnabel, about a Palestinian woman’s experience during the Intifada, of course she would take that over something like a Bollywood item song (even though Miral did end up with bad reviews). The directors criticizing her Hollywood choices in the article above may be right when it comes to her upcoming film, Immortals, which has bad dialogue in the trailer, but that seems like a cash grab from male audiences. If she really wanted a good Indian based script, couldn’t she reach out to Vishal Bhardwaj, Ayan Mukherji, Nagesh Kukunoor, or even Aamir Khan? These are top-notch filmmakers whose scripts are critically respected in Bollywood these days. Konkona Sen Sharma and Vidya Balan seem to find good scripts.

Personally, I think Freida Pinto is making the most of her Hollywood career, and that is smart of her. She has 2 films coming out this year, with 2 more in post-production, so her career is taking off, not to mention she’s going to be in US Vogue soon, and her L’Oreal contract is still going strong. However, she will be on Simi Garewal‘s talk show, India’s Most Desirable. While Simi does not ask the questions everyone is thinking (like Karan Johar on Koffee with Karan), it will definitely be interesting to see her on an Indian talk show. Let’s see what she says about Bollywood then.
