The movie releases in India on Friday, September 2. Get Yer Boots on and Go Watch!

Oh. My. God. What a movie. It took me nearly 24 hours to blog this because I needed the ache I felt from watching it to pass, just so I don’t scare you off 🙂 The truth is it’s one of those brilliant unexpected films that tells a very specific story about a very specific someone that you get inextricably attached to in merely a few hours. Even now, after the credits have rolled I’m thinking of Ruth and what she’s doing now.

Anurag Kashyap

That is the brilliance of Anuragh Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin (seeing them together btw it’s pretty easy to see why they have such a deep connection, cute!) They created not one; but a slew of delightfully disturbing characters that will remain timeless like Abhay Deol’s tortured soul in Dev D. #FTW

Kalki Koechlin

You heard her kids! Time to get watching. We all complain about the same ‘ol same ‘ol Bollywood masala factory films it’s time to buy a ticket and make a change. I’m going twice for sure.

“If you come today.. its too early If you come tomorrow.. its too late! You pick the  timeeeeeee tick tick tick tick.”

Also I’d be amiss if I didn’t give props to the supporting cast; Naseeruddin Shah and Makarand Deshpande expectedly so but even Gulshan Devaiya plays the memorable “villain” almost as brilliantly as Vijay Raaz does in Delhi Belly. (Inspired, as you will see in my Q&A videos by the Kannada song Operation Diamond Racket lyrics Anurag gave him to work with.

Prashant Prakash plays Ruth’s vagabond boyfriend to a T (loved the little Cinemax home-theatre plug btw) and somehow we kinda even like his sorry ass by the end of it. But my hands down fave was Pooja Swaroop who plays Maya manager at Aspaspa and spends numerous hours on the phone revealing hilarious things about herself (mostly improvised). As Anurag put it, its like the umpteen secretaries he’s seen come and go. I died laughing when she did “FLAMES” with her current squeezes name and was most upset to have gotten Enemies or Stranger. (If any part of your childhood was spent in India you’ll understand why this scene was pure genius.)

The Star-Studded Yellow Carpet of That Girl In Yellow Boots

Ranveer Singh
Aditya Roy Kapur

Yup they were there too! Both these hotties Ranveer Singh (in funky green kicks) and Aditya Roy Kapoor looking suitable delish just before the 10pm screening but can you believe I didn’t notice? I was too busy internalizing this brilliant independent film I’d just seen – both hating and loving them for making this movie. Ah well, there’s always next time 🙂

The Yellow carpet (nice touch) was also graced by Abhinav Kashyap, Shazahn Padamsee, Sharon Prabhakar, Imtiaz Ali, Ranveer Singh, Aditya Roy Kapur, Prakash Jha, Sudhir Mishra, Kabir Bedi (who tweeted!), Vikram Aditya Motwane, Shiv Pandit,  Randeep Hooda, Parvesh Rana and Ronit Roy.

P.S. Of course all this talk of boots brought to mind The Sole Sisters Bootleggers party at Bonobo where I spotted yet another yellow pair last week! Make sure you wear yours when you watch the movie. But whatever happens, you really must go… xoxo
