Jane Lynch Hosts 2011 Emmys
Jane Lynch Hosts 2011 Emmys

I’m sure you’ll have read Serena’s post on the winners at the Emmy’s, but I’ll be looking at some of the losers (and some stunners)  on the Red Carpet. There was a lot of Red dresses on the carpet this time, not something I’m a huge fan of, but a definitely an off runway trend we’ll see in the coming months. Here are my pics for the best and the worst.

The Best of the Night

Kate Winslet in Elie Saab

Trust an Oscar winner to know how to dress for an award show. Schooling all these new actresses was Kate Winslet in an ultra sexy Elie Saab gown. The daring cleavage is done right and the colour on her it’s just incredible.

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karen

A vampire would want to devour Nina Dobrev, especially in this strapless Donna Karan dress. The deep red colour along with the painted on silhouette is a winner on the red carpet. The best part of the look as to be the necklace, stunning up close but subtle enough not to overpower the look.

Jennifer Carpenter in Tony Ward

This pale beaded Tony Ward dress with bold slit is perfect for Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter. Her wavy two toned hair and skin have just the right about of sun to keep her from looking washed out in her beige/tan dress. Now I wonder what she did to get that bruise on her knee?

Christina Hendricks in Johanna Johnson

Not many fashion websites like this look, but I love the absolute pale dress and her skin with that fire red hair and lips. It’s that extreme old Hollywood sex appeal that really stands out on the red carpet. Also considering that she’s very heavy on top, she doesn’t look like she’s going to topple over.

Lea Michelle in Marchesa and Manolo Blahnik

I am in love with this Marchesa dress on Lea Michele. It’s not a dress that will have heads turning, but it’s uber sophisticated and the back… GORGEOUS! The cowls on the back are just that hint of spice that keeps the dress from looking matronly. Lets not forget the Manolo Blahnik shoes, I want I want… I WANT!

Now, For the Worst of the Night

Heidi Klum in Christian Siriano and Seal

<Sorry! This image is no longer available.>

I know Heidi Klum likes to support her contestants from Project Runway, but she should have maybe asked for another option. This Christian Siriano dress looks like he went scuba diving an picked up some corals to put on her dress. Not his best idea, just like Seal’s to the navel unbuttoned shirt!

Gwyneth Paltrow in Pucci

So what have we here? I guess Pucci is experimenting with black and the waist-less trend??? I like the open back, very hot and the sequins are stunning, but the combination of the open back and the waist less cut outs are very unappealing. Considering Gwyneth Paltrow has a rocking body (and abs) this dress has done nothing for her figure.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

I guess the Miss Universe pageant was a huge inspiration for Sofia Vergara’s look. I don’t hate the Vera Wang gown, it fits perfectly, and the colour is beautiful on Sofia, but something about it is a bit too passe. Although the earrings are stunning by themselves, with the bracelet and the dress, it’s too much of a pageant-y look.

Claire Danes in Oscar De La Renta

I would never associate both Claire Danes and Oscar De La Renta with the Worst dressed list, but somehow this space age look is just not doing it for me. It would probably work for the MTV Music Awards or maybe even the Teen Choice Awards, but for the Emmys it was way to garish. I much prefer Claire in her CK choices, don’t you?

Jayma Mays in Zuhair Murad

This Zuhair Murad dress would be the perfect wedding dress, it’s romantic and the embroidery is subtle but striking in its simplicity. Had it been Jayma Mays’ wedding and the dress been white/ivory, she would have been on the best dressed list. However, this is the Emmys and the colour is much to bland on her skin and up against all those stunning red gowns we saw on the carpet. Maybe next time Jayma!
