So we come to the age-old question… to lace or not to lace? Ladies, this timeless fabric is making a comeback on runways, but approach with caution! There’s a fine line between looking graceful and slipping into tacky with lace. Sonam Kapoor looked romantically delicious in a lace shrug over a maxi dress at the Delhi Belly success soiree. Rule of thumb: avoid anything that is lace from top to toe, so you don’t fall into the “inner-wear becomes outerwear” syndrome. By incorporating it in small pieces, you can look elegant and fashion-forward.  Let your pieces flow, like this bohemian Alice+Olivia dress.

Lace

Anything too structured will look trite, but mix lace with wool or flannel to create impact. We also adore this versatile fabric in neutral colours such as nude, seashell and ebony, to add mystery. Fashionistas may want to check out Valentino’s Fall 2011 or Dior’s 2011 Resort Haute Couture collection for inspiration.Delicate touches of lace, like on this Mango racer-back are just the right mix of edgy and chic, without looking too feminine. Pair with skinnies and boots – and you’re good to go!
