Bollywood’s Under-Appreciated: Jimmy Shergill

Jimmy Shergill

Hi MissMalini Peeps!

Have been really busy, and I will write a sequel to my Bollywood’s Craziest Fan Post when I get time, but I thought I’d add another entry to my Bollywood’s Under-Appreciated Series. I chose Jimmy Shergill fresh of the heels of the positive reviews he is getting for Saheb, Biwi, aur Gangster.

Jimmy Shergill in Game

Jimmy Shergill began his career in the incredible Maachis, the ground breaking film by Gulzar (yes, that Gulzar!). However, he rose to fame in Aditya Chopra‘s Mohabbatein, a film which I personally disliked, but had incredible box office returns.  You’d think a movie like that would boost the careers all of the cast involved-but it didn’t. Actually, all of Mohabbatein‘s fresh faces did not make it in Bollywood, except Jimmy of course.

His subsequent roles included supporting ones in major films, such as the Munnabhai franchise, Tanu Weds Manu and Karan Johar‘s My Name is Khan.  However, he also took critically appreciated lead roles in films such as Yahaan (check out the song Naam Ada Likhna), Haasil (co-starring with an equally brilliant Irrfan Khan) and A Wednesday. Jimmy is actually one of the few actors to have success in mainstream Bollywood and a regional cinema, in this case, Punjabi cinema.  His Punjabi films include his successful home production Dharti.

It’s also rumoured that Jimmy will co-star with Karishma Kapoor in her new flick Dangerous Ishq. Lolo and Jimmy would make an awesome pair!  While Jimmy may not have been the next Shah Rukh Khan, he has worked steadily, delivered great performances, and had a variety of roles, all good reasons for him to be included in this series.  So MissMalini readers, agree/disagree?
