Juliu Horvath, Gyrotonic Expansion System Founder: “I want music in my body and poetry in my body, and I want to be skillful without struggle; it has to come without struggle.”
As you know Nowshad and I have been sweating it out at Watson Fitness for a couple of weeks now (and yay I’m seeing results already!) So here’s what I did! I set up a FREE trial at the gym for you to try it out! Just call 022 – 65848422 or 022 – 42066000 and mention that MissMalini sent you (the peak gym hours are between 6:30 and 9:00pm so try to book your gym trial in advance please!)
Also Yesterday Zareen Watson gave me a demo experience of a whole new workout technique I’d never seen before. The Gyrotonic Expansion System which (as per the official website) “is a holistic approach to movement
that is designed to meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities.” The bonus benefits being: increased strength, flexibility, renewed energy & vitality and a general sense of calm and well being. So I did a demo class.
Psst! Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Teri Hatcher, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Anniston, Shaquille O’Neal and many other celebrities in the west use this modality to sculpt and shape their body with long fluid muscles and a strong and centered spine.
First up I have to say the immediate effect of stretching out your spine (which seems to be the focus of the exercise) is extremely relaxing. I left my demo class feeling refreshed, energized and a little bit dancer-esque 🙂 I think that’s because
Juliu Horvath created the Gyrotonic equipment and exercises to offer many of the same benefits as yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi.
What’s also cool is that all the exercises are performed on the adjustable Professional Pulley Tower so you get a fluidity of movement you don’t get with any other workout equipment. The machine known as the Cobra consists of a bench that you sit or lie on and a tower with a system of cables, pulleys, and weights, which you move with straps on your hands or feet or with handles attached to circular plates in the front.
Zareen also told me Juliu’s story, which is quite fascinating: Juliu Horvath, a Romanian-born dancer initially developed Gyrotonic as form of rehabilitation for injuries he sustained during his dance career. Utilizing his movement background and intuitive genius, he developed the Gyrotonic Expansion System to heal himself. He also designed, developed and built the original Gyrotonic equipment to help improve understanding of the Gyrotonic principles. How cool is that?
