Jonathan Saunders has done it, AGAIN. For the second season running, he managed to show that simplicity is genius ‒ and bag the trifling “show of the week” title, even before Day 2 of London Fashion Week has finished, along the way. Indeed, his S/S’12 was a masterful assortment of refined, undemanding, wearable YET seductive pieces with the vim and vigour of spring. And most importantly, plenty of ideas (italicized in bold) for us to pinch – all of which I’m hankering to implement NOW!
Being a sucker for colours, the collection had me from hello! With the fun colour play and degrade paisleys. And oh, those softly pleated full skirts.
The below-the-knee sundress, reminiscent of the Eisenhower years, was given a fresh spring in its step with a sherbetty palette and gentler handling of the tailoring.
The pyjama silk looks that came felt ethereal, and gave the collection a rather balmy vibe.
The retro waffle knits over toning silk skirts were particularly handy: it made a nice professional daywear, and thanks to it not coming across as too serious it could be taken out to an early evening event, too.
Never before it occurred to me that brocade could also look cool. The liberal sightings of this fabric delighted me like no other ‒ as it’s such an accessible fabric in the Subcontinent. My mind’s already inundated with images of all the dresses, skirts, jackets that I’m going to make in pastel hues of this regal fabric!
Lastly, those Christian Louboutin block colour wedges! Amaze.
Aaaaggghhhh… The wait for next spring seems endless after this!
