If you live in (or have visited) Kolkatta, Gurgaon or other small cities in India, you would be familiar with the cycle-rickshaw (above) which is a cheap and oft used mode of transport. But who would have guessed, this humble three-wheeler would get a high-fashion make-over?
The designers at Anthropologie (have created a stylized cycle-rickshaw, complete with a hand-embroidered canopy et al. The Philadelphia based company thinks it will be a smash-hit gift for Christmas and have priced at $2,200/-
The detachable canopy has hand-embroidered Kantha work from Bengal while the handle-bar also has some kitsch streamers for decoration.
So maybe with all the auto-rickshaw strikes in Mumbai, maybe….just maybe…this rickshaw will be a good substitute to take your girlfriend out to the nearest coffee shop for a cuppa???
