I’m a total Twihard! Been religiously reading all the Twilight books (Stephenie Meyer rules) and obsessing over the movies (I know what you’re thinking, Edward is sooo hawt!) ever since they first became such a rage. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 , the penultimate movie in thet Twilight series has its share of ups and downs. Nonetheless, I had a blast watching it and I am super excited about sharing some of the best and worst moments in the movie with you guys.

Stuff I Loved…

1) Coming of Age

Bill Condon
Bill Condon

With the debut of Oscar winning Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters) in the director’s chair, Breaking Dawn has breathtaking visuals (we love that about all Twilight flicks) and it’s easily one of the most mature, emotionally rich movies in the series. Totally what you need if you’re in love with watching Edward (Robbert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) evolve in their beautiful relationship.

2) Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and yummy Taylor Lautner!

Boy, is Kristen Stewart brilliant and she’s has really evolved as a performer capturing the essence of her character beautifully. Whether its the scene where she’s all nerves before her wedding or when she discovers she’s pregnant on her Brazilian Honeymoon, her intense acting skills and those killer looks really hold the otherwise uneventful script together. And Robert Pattinson is a delight to watch. His hot bod and bluey grey eyes can make any girl go weak in the knees and it helps that he can act. Taylor Lautner is scorching as Jacob (also a perfect bod) and the bond he shares with Bella is just so adorable, you almost wonder why they didn’t hook up.

3) Mush Central

Seriously, even if you aren’t a Twilight series lover, this movie (at least the first half) is perfect for your romantic date. I heart the picture perfect setting of the dreamy Edward- Bella wedding. I did think their Honeymoon went on for a bit too long but considering they have the most gorgeous chemistry ever, who’s complaining?

Stuff I Hated!

1) Scary but Funny

The second half was basically about Bella’s pregnancy and if she would survive giving birth to a half vampire baby. Her seriously deteriorating health made her look so pale that she was almost scary. All those scenes with The Cullens contemplating whats best for her were a little funny too like when they offered her blood in a cup with a straw (ewww). The scene with Bella giving birth is cringe-worthy.

2) Vampires Love a Good Fight!

Honestly, the werewolves vs. vampires fight was just too breezy to be effective. And some of the scenes with Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) trying to convince his pack of wolves not to harm Bella and her kid, Renesmee were unconvincing. The element of intrigue was lacking but the director more than made up for it, with a racy climax and a rocking end.

3) Works as a Love Saga, But Can You Pump up the Action?

The movie does set the stage for an all out battle between Bella’s new family, The Cullens and the Volturi, but it just becomes painfully slow in parts. The canoodling and cheesiness feels like an interminable tease but the narrative lacks momentum and isn’t gripping. What I don’t get is why they spend so much time just hanging around the house and watching Bella’s baby bump grow to monstrous proportions. And, the music video style feel of the soundtrack didn’t work for me in places.

The ending basically  formed the perfect premise for Part Two and we can’t wait to to see the final movie in the series (Damn, why do they always have to split the last book into two movies??!!)
