Mumbai’s Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra hosted the Mercedes-Benz World Catwalk India at its magnificent property on Sunday night. The first stop of the World Catwalk Shows will connect fashion across boundaries, by providing Indian designers with an opportunity to showcase internationally. In continuation with its association with several successful fashion events in the past, this fashion spectacle truly reflected the ideologies of Taj Lands End and reiterated the brand’s focus to promote international fashion in India.
The show at Taj Lands End comprised of prominent London-based international designers namely PPQ, Mark Fast, Issa, Felder Felder and Todd Lynn. In addition the highly acclaimed Indian design duo, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna exhibited their latest collection. The stand-alone show allowed the world renowned designers to showcase key looks from their Spring/Summer 2012 collections.
The Indian Chairs for this spectacular show included, designer Aki Narula, choreographer Marc Robinson, Sujal Shah – the CEO of FREECULTR and former VP and Head of Fashion for IMG India and also Emmanuel Balayer.
Taj Lands End hosted this star studded event which saw the glitterati in attendance as several personalities from the field of fashion and entertainment rubbed shoulders. The Indian fashionistas had an opportunity to view these new collections before they hit any stores, straight from London Fashion Week’s catwalk. The splendid show was followed by cocktails as guests mingled through the evening.
The designers and organizer of the event, Jorge Menna, MD of Trinity Co. are delighted to be launching in India. Jorge Menna said: “We work with numerous labels in London, within fashion and sponsorship. With our own show production experience and having travelled the world, it seems entirely obvious to come to India to launch World Catwalk, with Mercedes-Benz World Catwalk India, hosted by Taj. We have had fantastic support from the global fashion activity of Mercedes-Benz, as well as Taj and British Airways. We are incredibly encouraged and excited at just how well received this show has already been. The energy here is unrivalled, as is that of all our fantastic Indian chairs. We could not have chosen a better country in which to launch. We are excited that twice a year we will be bringing increasing numbers of collections and designers to India and taking Indian designers abroad.”
Debashis Mitra, Director – Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India said, “Mercedes-Benz and fashion have been synonymous with each. Internationally Mercedes-Benz is associated with fashion under the title of ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week’. Our association with World Catwalk India marks another initiative of Mercedes-Benz India into the Indian fashion arena. I am confident this association would further reinforce our cars as a hallmark of latest design and reinforce the fashion statement that our cars make – best or nothing.”
Among the famous faces we spotted were actress Poorna Jaganathan, designer and TV star Shama Sikandar with Alexx Oneil, models Pia Trevedi and Acquin Pais and actor Suhel Seth.
