I was so glad that I finally got to step onto the beach, the last two shows were at Marbela Beach, a beautiful location for the ending of the FIRST India Resort Fashion Week 2011. To end this fashion week Manish Malhotra showcased his resort collection. Being honest, Manish showed more of a cruise/festive collection than a resort wear line. Although fabrics and colours were lighter and brighter, the clothes didn’t really have that resort wear feel. Manish knows that he’s good at Indian wear, and focuses on his strength no matter what type of season.

This collection though felt a tad bit out of sync as compared to his normally really well put together collections that have a consistency running through them. Yet, it’s hard to really find too much fault with a designer who is so dedicated to his identity, that’s why we shall focus on the positive. My favourite look of the collection was a fuchia pink sari with bold antique gold sequined stripe going across the border. Sorry I don’t have the picture but it’s in the video above and it’s drop dead gorgeous!

The menswear in this collection were mostly cotton silk or linen Jodpurs. They teamed these up with what reminds me of a convent school boy blazer. Velvet is not normally a resort wear fabric, but his blazers and some of the paneling on the anarkalis were velvet in deep hues of purple and maroon. The strongest section of this collection had to be the pink section and that’s not because we love pink here at MissMalini.com. This section had a whole lot of the Bollywood glamor that we associate with Manish. Speaking about Bollywood, it was surprising that he didn’t have a show stopped considering the event and the location.
