Speaking on the occasion, Shah Rukh Khan said “I am overwhelmed by the honour. Though there have been books written about me, but the magnificence of this book simply stands out. I am thankful to the group for choosing me. My Opus will surely get me closer to my fans.”
With Don 2 all set for release real soon, Shah Rukh Khan fans are on cloud nine. And now, they have another reason to rejoice. King Khan has become the first actor in the world to get his own Opus.
Karl Fowler, The Opus Group CEO was with Shah Rukh at the Trident yesterday to officially announce this luxurious, leather- bound 800 page semi- autobiographical book which will weigh over 37 kilos. Shah Rukh has joined the league of iconic names in the Opus Collection, including Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Jackson, Manchester United FC, Formula 1 and Ferrari. SRK is the first actor in the world and the second Indian ever to have this magnanimous work dedicated to him.
The book titled King Khan – The Official Opus of Shah Rukh Khan will have unseen pictures taken by SRK himself (he loves Photography) and rare excerpts from his personal diary (he’s had it for 20 years! Cho chweet).
Shah Rukh signed the first page of the book which will be hand-stitched on the first prestigious copy of this glorious celebration of his life and his work. SRK believes that the book is immensely personal as its the only way he can share with his kids his struggles and the roller-coaster ride his life’s been so far.
Although Eszter Karpati who’s the Editor of King Khan’s Opus feels that it is hard to fit in the legacy of such a great man in 800 pages, the book will have interviews with family and celebrity friends and Shah Rukh will reveal his innermost thoughts for his fans.
I love that that the book will give me an insight into my favorite star’s s life and what makes it more exciting is that SRK will sign each marquee limited edition book which will be taken on a worldwide tour.
The proceeds from the auction of this limited edition Opus will go to charity. I’m super excited about the book’s release in 2012. At the event, King Khan was his usual charming self losing his cool only briefly when a journo asked him why he wasn’t promoting Don 2 as much as Ra.One. Argghh! He said that Don 2 was also his own production (he’s going on a major promotional spree starting today) and insensitive remarks like this hurt him and belittled his hard work.
Another hyper journo asked him for his reaction to Vidya Balan’s suggestion that the Khans add Balan to their name. SRK joked that with all his leading ladies doing so well, he’d go crazy changing his name from Kaif and Kapoor to Chopra every week.
He even answered my question about his own book, Twenty Years of A Decade which he had discussed at the Bombay Duck Is A Fish launch. He told me that he’d only publish it once everyone else was done writing about him. With his undying charisma, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
