So here I was chilling at home with my family post-dinner and I happened to ask my Daddy if he has heard the new Katrina Kaif item number (Rashmi showed us a teaser of the song earlier this week). My Daddy being a “Katrina Fan” got all excited, so I had to YouTube the Original Version of the Song that came out today.
Suddenly I heard my Granny singing in the background and I was totally stunned that she knew the song! I asked her if she’d watched it on TV and she goes “Oh its such a old song now, they used to sing it in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa”! That’s when we realised that she was singing a very famous Marathi Song (which is where they copied Chikni Chameli from btw).
So for all the Marathi Mulgis out there, here is the original version of Chikni Chameli.
Katrina Kaif’s item number in Karan Johar’s Agneepath, is a Hindi remake of the Marathi dance number, Kombadi Palali, from the film Jatra (2006). The original Marathi song was also composed by the brothers Atul and Ajay Gogavale. Now, we all know that KJo wants to make his own Munni or Sheila, but as if remaking an old Hindi movie was not enough, he decided to do a Bollywood take on an old Marathi song as well?
Guess we’ll have to wait and watch what Agneepath has to offer… xoxo
