Salman Khan

Oh, Salman. Whatever you say about this guy, he’s got the ability to surprise you – on one hand we hear about how lovely he is (like that time he bought MissMalini drinks at China House!), and at other times you hear some not-so-nice things (like that whole Aishwarya Rai incident). Well, what we do know is that he’s one of the biggest stars in Bollywood today and is definitely talented, so that’s what we’ll be focusing on! Over the years, I’ve collected quite a few of my favourite Sallu songs – and I’ll be sharing them with you. Let me know yours! :)

1. Dil Deewana – Maine Pyar Kiya

Remember Salman’s string of Sooraj Barjatya films – where he was always Prem? Yup, it all started from this one, which was only his second movie (and which earned him a Filmfare Debut award). I am still obsessed with this movie (I have a soft spot for these Sooraj Barjatya type films, I will admit) and this song is too lovely to pass up. (P.S. Is it just me or does Bhagyashree still look the same? I saw her at The Chivas Studio and it’s like she hasn’t aged a bit!)

2. Dikhtana – Hum Aapke Hain Kaun

It was difficult to pick a song from this film, because all of them take me back to my childhood! I’d probably pick this one, though, if only for the happy dancing, Girl/Boy caps, that white dog, and the perfect family portrayal. All classic Sooraj Barjatya elements – told you I had a soft spot!

3. Bahon Ke Darmiyan – Khamoshi

This is one of my favourite songs from the 90s. Absolutely love it – so beautiful (the entire album is amazing, though!)

4. East Aur West – Judwaa

How cracktastic is this song? You couple Sallu’s crazy moves with Anu Malik‘s voice, and you’ve really got something else. I also can’t explain how I’ve been in rolling on the floor while watching this film, even though it’s one of the stupidest things on the planet. It’s just one of those movies.

5. O O Jaane Jaana – Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya

This may forever remain my favourite Salman Khan song. It’s ingrained in my childhood like nothing else is. Which is why, when I got to see him dancing to it live at the DY Patil Awards, I was thrilled to bits! (There’s a video there too – you should check it out!)

6. Dholi Taaro – Hum Dil De Chukhe Sanam

This film had several good songs, but I’d probably pick this as a favourite. It’s just too catchy to pass up.

7. Ye Bekhudi – Tumko Na Bhool Payenge

If you asked me about this movie, I couldn’t tell you – I don’t remember a thing about it (ironic for a film titled Tumko Na Bhool Payenge). But this song, I do remember as that cute song I loved all those years ago.

8. Jeene Ke Hai Chaar Din – Mujhse Shaadi Karoge

I am awaiting the day I get to dance to this song and do that towel move. I don’t know when it will happen, but I know it will – I won’t consider my life complete until it does. (Did you know “Salman Khan towel dance” is a legitimate YouTube search and will lead you to this video? I think the towel gained more popularity in this song than Sallu did.)

9. Tenu Leke – Salaam-e-Ishq

One of those perfect wedding songs – I always get a strong urge to dance whenever I hear this! And how cute does Sallu look in this, really? Special mention also to Ya Rabba from this film; I was this close to picking it, but Tenu Leke won out just for the sheer amount of Salman goodness in it!

10. Dhinka Chika – Ready

This song is the definition of Salman Khan – crazy lyrics, crazy music, crazy dance moves! Only Salman could make this song what it is.

Happy birthday, Salman Khan, from Team MissMalini!
