Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is one of those ladies who does things a little differently. She’s not afraid to “look bad” in order to do good work (I put it in quotations because I think she looks lovely!). Gotta give her respect for going out on a limb and not subscribing to the typical Bollywood definition of beauty (so overrated); she stands apart, especially in her work! For her birthday, let’s take a look at some of her best roles.

1. Parineeta

This was her first film, for which she received a Filmfare Best Debut award – and a nomination for Best Actor, Female!

2. Lage Raho Munnabhai

Loved her bubbly character in this one, and her “Goodmorninggg, Mumbai!” 🙂

3. Guru

I’m in love with this movie. Vidya plays a supporting character in this film, but she’s impactful as a multiple sclerosis patient. This is also one of my favourite scenes from the film!

4. Paa

It’s hard to look past Amitabh Bachchan in this, but Vidya held her own as the mother of a son who suffers with progeria.

5. No One Killed Jessica

Based on a true story, this film garnered praise from both critics and the audiences – and Vidya’s role was highly appreciated.

What are your favourite Vidya roles? I haven’t seen The Dirty Picture, so apologies that it’s not on the list – but judging from what I’ve heard, it’s definitely one of her best!
