Yesterday was the first day at India Kids Fashion Week and the general consensus was that the kids were absolute champs! Kids now-a-days have oodles of oomph and its evident on the runway. Day 1 started out on a strong note with the Narendra Kumar for Hotwheels show and ended on a starry note with actress Dia Mirza walking the ramp for Rocky S. Catch all the celebrity and off the runway action in my colleague’s blog post, read on for all the show reviews from day 1.
This had to be the most fun collection Narendra has ever had, the kids were dancing on stage, full of energy and oozing confidence that comes not only from being fun kids but also from really comfortably clothes. Narendra Kumar did an all boys collection for Hotwheels that appealed to both little boys as well as their parents. We Loved the blazers for boys and the signature Narendra Kumar pants that we saw on the kids. There were a lot of Hotwheel printed tees and what rally stood out were the stretch jeans for boys. So if you’re nephew is a boy who likes all the comfort possible while playing sport or dancing at a birthday party, this collection is for him.
This collection focused on a nautical/pirate theme with stripes and skull&bones print tees. Lots of casual wear options for both your little girls and boys. Pastel plaid shirts and Bermuda pants for boys and cute smocking day dresses for girls; A beach collection that has something for even the most fussy tot.
Priyadarshini Rao offers her carefree bohemian design sensibility to the Mineral (girl) collection. Unlike her usually muted colour pallet, this time there were bright florals and splashes of neons. This might have something to do with Priyadarshini’s little girl Maya (or is it Maia?). She has always told her mom that she when she grows up she wants to open up a store right opposite hers and it’ll be filled with bright colors, prints and bling. I’m sure Maya was instrumental in telling Priyadarshini just what she wanted to see on the runway.
This collection was filled with casual everyday wear that was easy to wear and comfortable for kids. When designing for kids you have to take into consideration their moms or dads who are buying the clothes, you can’t just appeal to the child! This collection was clearly a winner for the parents. Non fuss clothing that kids wouldn’t throw a tantrum to wear.
Clean, resort and casual chic, this was a sure winner for the day. Although it may not appeal to the the young ones as it lacked in prints and sequined it was what resort wear should be for kids. Breezy maxi dresses, linen shirts, loose fit trousers in colours of blue, white, turquoise pink and orange. I loved the long net skirts with jersey muscle tees for the girls (see video), it’s a perfect beach wedding outfit for the fashionable girl. BTW, doesn’t the girl in the picture look a bit like a mini MissMalini, plus she’s wearing pink!
Monnalisa is an Italian brand that brought a whole lot of ‘Gone with the Wind’ with a touch of Chanel for kids. There were smart jackets, bold stripe ‘A’ line dresses and very lady like net gloves. An all girls collection that stuck to a colour pallet of mostly white and black with a few touches of baby pink and blue. Smart casuals for any occasion from tea time to birthday time.
Rocky S. did his Signature collection but this time for kids. Unlike the rest of the designer from day 1, he did only formal wear. Velvet suits and classic tuxes for the little boys, made all the boys look like little men. Not to be out done were the girls in their evening best. We loved that Rocky S did a few LBDs, any girl, at any age needs one, doesn’t she?! He used a dark colour pallet of grey, black, maroon and old rose. The whole show had a air of the flapper 1920s with frills and pearl jewellery for the girls. For more on the collection and a his show stopper Dia Mirza, check out the video.
