Vogue held their 3rd School of Style a few days back, hosted by Priyanka Khanna (Fashion Features Editor), Priyanka Kapadia (Senior Fashion Stylist) and Perizaad Khan (Beauty Editor). We could go on about how you should dress, but that would probably bore you. A popular misconception, thanks to The Devil Wears Prada, is that people in the fashion industry don’t eat, are bitchy and that we get free clothes! Well this is what I learnt from the Vogue’s School of Style (V.S.O.S.); it may surprise you!
Who says people in the fashion industry don’t eat?! This couldn’t be further from the truth. Priyanka Khanna says, that at the Vogue offices, there are people ordering McDonalds every day! In fact, even at fashion week, I’m always sitting with my designer and publishing friends, and guess what – we talk about eating, while we’re eating! Which is why, the most important tip we learnt at V.S.O.S. was – dress for your shape.
The second issue is something I hear a lot – “You’ll are so bitchy!” Well, that’s a lie! After the V.S.O.S. was over, all the ladies who attended (who were very well dressed, I might add) had time to mingle with the Vogue team, and it was great to see such an exchange of just fashion conversation. All the teachers were super sweet and talked (with great enthusiasm) to all the ladies who came for the session. The #1 question that all these ladies had, was how to dress for their job, which leads me to the second tip – dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
You’ve all seen and probably lusted over that scene where Anne Hathaway plays in the ‘Runway’ closet. Well, I asked both the Priyankas and they said, that though they get to try on all the gorgeous accessories, they don’t get to keep any. Seeing these great rings, shoes and bags (etc.) means they lust over them and eventually, HAVE go out there and buy them – an occupational hazard, according to them! That’s why they swear by this next tip – accessories can change any outfit, so invest in really luxe pieces.
