Simon Smith

Simon Smith, a U.K.-based sand wizard and cancer survivor, created a 10×10 sand castle in the courtyard at High Street Phoenix recently, for World Cancer Day. It’s amazing to look at, and is being exhibited until February 12th, so definitely go see it. Plus, Simon Smith is usually there, so you can always have a quick word with him about his experience building this – we sure did! 🙂

Simon Smith’s sand castle

You’ve got to appreciate the detailing on his sand castle; from the chain to the gate, everything looks very authentic. And he was great to speak to as well. He’s a well-travelled guy, and has built sand castles all over the world, so he’s seen a lot, and has quite a few stories. He’s a cancer survivor himself and builds these castles to raise donations for the Cancer Patients Aid Association (C.P.A.A.). So, while the sand castle is up for free viewing, donations are of course welcome.

Also, we caught up with him and he gave us a quick look into what it’s like to actually build one of these; look out for the video! Till then, if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, pop into High Street Phoenix for a look at this castle. Iit’s only up until Sunday, and it’s for a good cause as well. 🙂
