Shahana Goswami walks the ramp for Debarun, at Lakme Fashion Week

Debarun Mukherjee‘s show at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2012, started off with four mysterious men in long white kurtas, holding vintage lamps and walking through the audience, only to emerge on the ramp and surround a female model. It was to convey mememories of the past, a  journey of retro life, and hence, this collection was called Bygone.

With pure white as his colour base, Debarun’s simplicity emerged, with gentle touches of hues like sky blue, mountain brown, lake blue, pink, tangerine, yellow and forest green as linings, which added depth to the different fabrics and textures. Beautiful chanderis, dupion silk, delicate crushed mulmul, and soft Indian cottons gave life to the creations, under the arc lights.

The clean and simple silhouettes, inspired by the 50’s and 60’s, included kaftans with interesting churi sleeves, kurtas, flared trousers teamed with cropped tops, A-line skirts and blouses, form fitting suits, saris and fish tail sari ghagras.
