One of the collections I truly enjoyed watching on Day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week, was the Cocoon collection by Farah and Firdos. The duo had used gorgeous bhagalpur silk,s and had specially engineered weaves and exquisite handmade textures, to give a new dimension to the fading craft of the bhagalpur silk weavers.
Keeping the silhouettes gently flowing, there were handmade textures that complemented the grace and charm of the garments, and yet preserved the raw nature of India’s rich heritage. The delicately woven yarns flew gently on the runway, and gave the garments a luxe quality.
Each outfit was draped in an intriguing and very unconventional manner – bunched-up, rouched, cringed, draped, folded, tucked and even looped. The sheer, almost gossamer like fabric, floated around the models, as they glided down the ramp with their bare feet encased in the same fabric.
The colour story was limited to white, blue, green, carbon green, brick, brown and red, to make for an interesting and vibrant collection!
