They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but we’re not quite sure what designers Shivan & Narresh would think, after seeing Arpan Vohra’s show at Lakme Fashion Week, yesterday in Mumbai.
The moment his first model walked out onto the ramp, in a colour-blocked swimsuit, with contrast colour detailing on the robe, my colleague Sue Elle Castellino and myself, looked at each other in disbelief.
“This is Shivan and Narresh from two years ago,” she said, shaking her head in disdain! And she should know their designs like the back of her hand, since the Delhi-based designers (“My boys” – as she refers to them) are her close friends.
It’s one thing to be “inspired“, as most designers are from time-to-time, but it’s a totally different ball-game, to simply lift another designer’s signature concept.
Tsk! Tsk! We are not amused…
