Manly or hourglass

The silhouette of the body is very iconic of how fashion has changed through the ages. Now-a-days however, the silhouette is more updated than changed. The fall 2012 shows were rampant with very hourglass and manly shapes putting us women in a quandary. Lets have a look at some of the extreme fashions from the runways and judge which shape we like the best (vote at the end.)

When we say manly, we don’t necessarily mean Grace Jones, although that’s what the runways are showing us. We suggest doing the man-ish shape by merely tweaking it to a woman’s body. Get that boxy silhouettes with bulky jackets or straight leg trousers that are very menswear but give the woman’s body a more square shape that lends to this idea of a strong femininity. It was seen on the runways of Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Hermès. I think it’s most sexy when a girl who is ultra feminine and girlie opts to change it up once in a while with a real mani-ish look, try it out!

This is my favourite silhouette… ever! It shows off your tiny little waist and designers are going really big on the hip and shoulders to accentuate that small waist and hide those larger areas we women can’t work off! You might not want to go that extreme for all your looks but it’s a great trick for the eye, to make you appear smaller. If you want a quick hourglass silhouette, try using a large belt on your natural waist to show it off! We saw the hourglass silhouette in many of the runways like Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Lanvin.
