My collegue, Sue Ellen Castellino is very excited about the Sex And The City prequel, called The Carrie Diaries. And I’m very excited about the fashions simply because the TV show will be set in the 80’s – the era I grew up in and which I hold very special in my heart.
This was when Madonna broke onto the scene as well and her Like A Virgin and Metrial Girl were anthems from fashionistas. No surprises then that the first look of the young Carrie Bradshaw, released by Warner Brothers, has a very 80’s Madonna feel to the dress worn by the young Carrie, AnnaSophia Robb.
The short jacket, the frilly skirt, the unruly curly hair and the sequin sparkle – all resonate of Madonna’s look during her Like A Virgin days.
In fact, in the flashback sequence of the second Sex And The City film, they had Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dressed up in a Madonna-esque fashion.
The costumes will be designed by Emmy-winning costume designer, Eric Daman, who worked on the original series as well. In an interview to The Daily Mail (London) he said, “Having played a hand in designing for the Carrie we know and love, I am honoured to be chosen to carry the torch – to illuminate the woman we know by discovering the young lady she was!”
Really looking forward to this TV show, now!
