With already a number of eateries and nightclubs in the Lokhandwala-Oshiwara area in Andheri west, last night saw the opening of Apicius, a stones-throw away from Fame Adlabs.

The spacious resto-bar has an al fresco bar and seating area as well, but they would definitely need some turbo fans to keep patrons cool during the April-May summer season. It was already pretty humid and clammy last night so I’m hoping they will take the suggestion seriously.

Conceptualised by Atirek Garg, Ritik Bhasin and Sunny Sara, MissMalini’s friend, Chetan Kapoor tells us that Apicius is a collection of Roman culinary recipes which was put together sometime in the Fourth or Fifth Century (AD). What I liked about the venue – apart from the outdoor area, are small and interesting touches such as black and white photos on the walls and Venetian style murano glass chandeliers which give the place an elegant and contemporary feel.

Another thing I hope for is more palatable food. While they had plenty of starters and pizzas doing the rounds yesterday, the flavours hardly jumped out at you and failed to tickle our taste-buds. Also, the waiters need a crash-course on what they are serving. Just answering “Veg” or “Non-veg” when asked what’s on the serving tray is not good enough.

But these are surely teething problems all eateries go through and I’m pretty sure Apicius will fast develop into the newest watering-hole in the Andheri West area.
