Shobha De recently launched Soha Parekh‘s coffee table book celebrating the timeless Indian sari – and had a few choice words for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along the way!

Six yards of sensuality that makes every Indian woman look more divine than she ever imagined she could. That’s the sari. Now, remember how we at MissMalini told you how chic we think this gorgeous symbol of our culture is. So, I love the idea of a book about it totally excites me. That’s why I think it’s awesome that Soha Parekh’s coffee table book Sari – Splendour in Threads is a tribute to this classic Indian garment.

Parekh’s book chronicles the journey of this unstitched garment from ancient times to becoming the offficial dress of royals all the way to modern India. And she’s even got our top designers like Manish Malhotra and Ritu Kumar and of course the Sari King, Sabyasachi Mukherjee talking about their undying love for it.

In her talk, Shobha spoke about upholding the tradition of wearing a sari so our craftsmen and their art do not die out. And preserving the tradition was also one of the main reasons why Parekh wrote the book in the first place.

The funniest part was Shobha De joking about how she really wanted Aishwarya Rai to wear a sari to the Cannes festival as it is our national pride. She also added that it was better than any ‘ridiculous gown’ that Aishwarya could end up wearing. Ouch. Is Mrs.Bachchan listening?
