The question is, who will be Hamlet? Contrary to reports, Abhishek Bachchan is not in the running to play the lead role of Hamlet in Tighmanshu Dhulia’s next.
My spy says juniors Bachchan’s name only came up because of his proximity to the producers Shrishti & Goldie Behl. The real names who are being considered are Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor. Goldie is very keen to have one of these hotties as Hamlet! Because apparently, the part requires someone with tremendous screen presence and good looks. (Can you hear Shakespeare turning in his grave yet?)
The buzz is that all three actors are quite excited to nab the role and are busy convincing the producers that they would each do the best job.
Hollywood-wise I love Jude Law, I bet he was a great Hamlet on Broadway, oooh or maybe even Joaquin Phoenix? The perfect balance of gritty good looks and deep dark angst? Yum!
PS. I highly recommend whoever does get the part should watch this 20th century version with Ethane Hawke.
