Style Guide for Men 2 – Style Tricks

Marv D'Souza
Men’s style decoded

Heya Fellas, this is part 2 of the Men’s style guide. Here, I shall take you through a few styles that you can rock without trying too hard.  I have managed to put together a few pictures to help you understand the looks better. An added tip; a few style websites like The Satorialist and Wearabout can be helpful just to see how men put their wardrobe together on a the daily basis.

Formally Informal

Work clothes can get boring and casual wear gets a bit too carefree. Take a moment to shake things up, match a t-shirt over blazer over khakis. Take you favourite pair of sneakers and wear it with your suit or blazer-trousers combo. The trick lies in just the right amount of a casual-vibe while meaning business. Here a few tips.

Formally Informal

Tip 1: You could fold your shirt sleeves half-way rather than the usual quarter-way up. Shirts and semi-formal cargos work just fine for this look. Also the half-way neatly folded sleeves can add length to your torso, which is always a good thing.

Tip 2: Your hip semi-formal blazer on trousers look can gain a bit of swag by adding a pair of hip sneakers. Perfect for casuals-Fridays and comfortable to run crazy post work.

Tip 3: Mix things up by working with separates, away from the mundane matched suits. A simple white shirt and cotton trousers can get a face-lift with a trendy checker jacket. It breaks the seriousness while adding a lil’ som’n som’n.

Shorts Yaar!!!

Summertime and rains calls for downsizing the trousers to something airy and fuss-free. Cropped shorts are perfect for bumming around in. Choose from cargos, denims and cotton teamed with a variety of looks.

Crop em up

Tip 1: T-shirts or sweat shirts with a pair of shorts and lazy loafers will get you in the mood for doing nothing. Boy, does that sound good!

Tip 2: Breathy cotton kurtas work with a pair of khaki cropped-shorts makes your look Desi-chic.

Tip 3: You can grab hold of some pinstriped or checkered cotton shorts. Fold the bottom to take the look to another level. Not too much work and so cool!

Denim Dare

Denim is always favored when it comes to laidback dressing. Add denim to your work wardrobe when you can and have fun with it.

Denimformal

Tip 1: Throw the boring dress shirts out for a day and wear a denim shirt with a blazer and trouser. Denim adds that extra dose of funk.

Tip 2: If all that coordination seems too complex, try teaming a denim shirt with a pair of cotton-denim trousers.

Tip 3:  Instead of work trousers, replace those with a pair of well fitting denims, it keep things light and informal; a good change from the boring clichés.

Denim on Denim

A more street-way to go is by the denim on denim trend. Try teaming your denim shirt or a jacket over a pair of jeans.

Accessories Save

If you still find it troublesome to get a look together, concentrate on one thing. Keep your entire look simple with muted tones and add one statement accessory to pop the entire look. It could be a hat, a watch or a tie.

Make a statement

1. A Pair of good old suspenders

2. A coloured belt

3. A colour-blocked pair of loafers.

Scarves are one of the most embraced accessories in male fashion over the years. People have worn it in a million ways and it’s a versatile piece of cloth that can add a dash of personality to a boring look.

Scarf styles

Tip 1: Choose a bold colour like the blue one in the picture, let it play out in volumes by showing it off generously.

Tip 2: If you’re a little conservative with the amount of attention you want to draw, try tucking the scarf into your shirt. If you have a printed one like in the picture, it will look cool peeping out.

Tip 3: Try different knots and colours. The guy in the picture has used an orange scarf and done a classic knot. The colour of his scarf poops beautifully against the dark tones of his outfit.

Styling yourself for 15 minutes before you start out on the day can be vain but therapeutic. Taking time to present yourself is always good because people do take notice.
