Lakme Fashion Week
Lakme Fashion Week

It’s only a few weeks away but I can’t wait for the fashion frenzy that is Lakmé Fashion Week to begin. In its 13th year, LFW promises to be bigger, bolder and probably its best yet. I attended the press conference and here’s what to expect…

For starters, a record number of designers will be participating – 86 to be precise. There’s a balance between industry stalwarts such as Anita Dongre, Ritu Beri, Wendell Rodricks, Neeta Lulla and the newer lot which includes Shift, Sailex and Ruchika Sachdeva. What’s more, there will be a huge focus on Indian textiles and weaves with special workshops being conducted by Jaya Jaitly, Darshan Shah and Maximiliano Modesti – all extremely well versed on the topic.

And for art lovers, expect to find installations which reflect the “magic of the monsoon” around popular venues across the city and at The Source. For the first time there will be a bookstore where one can pick up fashion-related books, and Wendell Rodricks has even chosen LFW to launch his memoirs. Talk about an OD of fashion! (the good kind!)

You might have lusted for or worn her outfits but Pallavi Jaikishan, the grand lady behind exquisite bridal wear is showcasing her collection in collaboration with Sankpal realty.

Finale designers, husband and wife duo Pankaj & Nidhi, who are making their debut, will interpret Lakmé Absolute in their collection and Kallol Dutta, who kick-started his career showcasing at GenNext at LFW. Can’t. Hardly. Wait! I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly anticipating seeing some great designs. So block your calendars from the 3rd to 7th August 2012 and make your way to the Grand Hyatt, you’re not going to be disappointed!
