Pernia Qureshi
Pernia Qureshi

Pernia Qureshi is no stranger to the fashion world. Aside from lending her expertise in styling Aisha, and its lead actress Sonam Kapoor, Qureshi has very successfully launched her very own e-shopping site www.perniaspopupshop.com that retails some of the best Indian designer wear. In a few weeks, she will debut her first ever runway collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. I sat down with her for a  small interview…

Team MissMalini: You’re presenting your first runway collection, tell us what the process is like for you?

Pernia Qureshi: It’s my first runway show and I am very excited about this. It’s exciting yet a little nerve-wracking. But the whole process of conceptualising the collection, designing, production and deadlines gives me a high every single day. I look forward to each day because I’m seeing my collection come to life and seeing it at LFW Winter/ Festive’12 runway is like waking up to THE DREAM!

Team MM: Who exactly is the Pernia Qureshi woman? Do you have a muse?

PQ: The Pernia Qureshi woman is glamorous; not just someone aspiring to be glamorous. She is ageless, loves grace and carries herself with a distinct persona. It’s difficult to pin-point a muse but to pick a few favorites I would say my mom (most definitely), Diane Kruger maybe.

Team MM: How would you describe your style?

PQ: I like to keep it simple while making a statement. So I would say it’s minimilastically chic.

Team MM: What’s your favourite piece in this collection?

PQ: While I like all the pieces from my collection, I would say my ONE BIG FAVORITE is the sari. It has the understated elegance that is very vintage, very Indian and very contemporary – all at the same time.

Team MM: Tell our readers what are the 5 essentials that they should have in their wardrobe at all times.

PQ: 5 essentials that I think everyone must own are from my site:

  1. Black leather foldable clutch (perfect for any evening), from Poem
  2. Simple white tee for a girls’ day out, T-shirt Republic for Pernia’s Pop Up Store
  3. Comfy penny loafers, Taramay
  4. Abu-Jani’s pret collection – sari with the color-block trend, Abu Jani
  5. One-shoulder embellished maillot, Shivan & Narresh
