I officially love Google Doodles. My favorite so far was probably the muppets, go figure 🙂 but the Star Trek 46th anniversary Doodle isn’t far behind!

So in honor of this Doodle, and the 46th anniversary for Trekkies around the world, here are a few things you probably never knew about the epic show!

1. Mr. Spock’s skin color was originally red!
This was abandoned when they realized that in black & white Spock’s skin would end up looking black. (Plus Leonard Nimoy would have to sit in makeup for hours every morning.)

2. Spock didn’t eat or drink.
Not only would he have been red-faced, but Spock would have been spotted snacking either. Instead a plate in the middle of his stomach absorb any energy that struck it.

3. The U.S.S. Enterprise had a six-lane bowling alley on board.
According to an authentic set of Star Trek Blueprints from 1975, there was a pretty giant bowling alley on Deck 21, right next to the “Refreshments Area” and the “Food and Beverages Preparation Facility.”

4. William Shatner has never watched Star Trek.
The original Captain James T. Kirk told his daughter, Lizbeth Shatner, “I never watched Star Trek. I have not even seen any of the Star Trek movies. I don’t watch myself.”

5. “Beam me up, Scotty” was never said on the show.
The infamous line, “Beam me up, Scotty” assumed to be uttered by Captain Kirk to chief engineer Montgomery Scott, never appeared precisely this way in a Trek series or film, ever.

PS. I saw a hilarious puppet sketch once, where a Mr. Spock puppet was dressed in a toga with a wreath on his head and said, “I’m an actor, Don’t typecast me! I can do Shakespeare… To be or not, to be… that is illogical captain.” *lol*
