Over the weekend, it was announced that Barfi! would be India’s official entry into the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category at the Oscars. From my Twitter timeline alone, I saw a mixed response to this – some people loved the film and thought it was a good choice, while others found it odd we had picked a film that allegedly lifted scenes from several Hollywood movies. So I’m asking you – what are your thoughts about this?
Also, it should be noted that Barfi! is so far only India’s entry – it has not secured a nomination yet – over the years, only three films from India have gotten through the final nomination process – Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan. The final nominations for the 85th Academy Awards will be revealed on January 10th, but either way – it’s quite an achievement for team Barfi!, so huge congratulations to them!
