Karan Johar and the Student of the Year cast recently appeared at an event to launch Aircel‘s Buddy of the Year program, where participants will get a chance to meet Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The four of them fielded questions from the media, and I have to say, it’s quite obvious Karan Johar has given them a little media training. 😉 Watch on to see what I mean!

According to Karan, if he were to give someone the Buddy of the Year award, he’d present it to his childhood friend and Dharma CEO, Apoorva Mehta. Of course he was asked why he didn’t pick Shah Rukh Khan for that title, and according to KJo, SRK is more like a big brother than a ‘buddy’ – he gives him so much respect that he believes the term ‘buddy’ would dilute their relationship.

Alia was also asked about what it felt like to be compared to Kareena Kapoor. While she thinks it’s a huge compliment, Alia believes that she can’t even be compared to her, and that Kareena is too big a star.

Varun and Alia were also asked which style of filmmaking they identified to the most – their dads’ (David Dhawan and Mahesh Bhatt respectively), or Karan Johar‘s. Alia wouldn’t pick, saying she loved them both (total KJo diplomacy on display here), but Varun said that he’d go with Karan’s, since he actually worked in the film and the characters are closer to his age group, making them more identifiable.

And after the event, I headed over to Varun to say a quick hi (’cause I’m a fangirl, can you blame me?) and pass on a message from his fans – two Twitter fanclubs tweeted me and asked me to beg him to join Twitter, which I did. It was adorable because he looked confused for a second and then said, “I didn’t know I had fans.” *lol* Cute, right?!
