Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai

Ever since Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been spotted out and about everyone is wondering when she’s going to be back on the big screen, so you’ll be happy to hear that she’s most likely given a nod to Mani Ratnam’s adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s famous 1938 novel Rebecca, where she will play the title role.
No surprises there really since Ash and Mani go way back, she even made her debut in his Tamil film Iruvar in 1997 and 10 years later starred in Guru with her husband Abhishek Bachchan.

Interestingly Rebecca is about a newly married woman who is constantly compared to her husband’s first wife by the housekeeper. Oooh  the drama! Mani Ratnam will of course adapt the novel into a contemporary Indian setting, set for a 2014 release.

Ok… I’ll just say it. The story sounds interesting and all but I’m cringing a little at how it reiterates the “married actress” cliché. Can we get past that please and let married actresses still be eligible for “single” female lead roles? Thankyouverymuch.
