31st Oct Halloween, also known as ‘Samhain’, is supposed to be the night when the veil between the living and dead is the thinnest. On this ‘eerily special day’, here is looking at romances that are…well ‘ otherworldly’.

1) Dracula

Long before R-Patzz became the brand ambassador of vampires, Bram Stoker created the first vampire in literature with the widowed Count Dracula. Dracula lived for a hundred years in Transylvania, grieving for his wife, until she was reborn a few hundred years later and engaged to another man which brought out his fangs.

2) Twilight

Need I say more. An ordinary mortal falls in love with a vampire who drinks humans for lunch. The story of an improbable love, which after many twist, turns, a few werewolf’s and 3 sequel books finally works out for Bella (even in real life!)

3) What Dreams May Come

A doctor deeply in love with his dead wife literally fights heaven and earth to save her from destroying her soul and to find their own personal heaven. A must-watch movie (there is a book too) that defines how heaven and earth are all in your head.

4) Ghost

The quintessential ‘Ghost’ rom-com that created a new genre by itself. After an untimely accidental death, Patrick Swayze comes back as a ghost to save his super-hot girlfriend Demi Moore from a killer on loose. An iconic tale about love that transcends death.

The person you love is a star in your life but ever wonder what it’s like to fall in love with an actual star? Master storyteller Neil Gaiman spins a wondrous tale about a common shop boy who chases a falling star to impress the girl he loves, and ends up finding real love.

A coming-of-age movie about a teenage girl who falls in love with an immortal boy. A slightly older version of Peter Pan, this one will have you believe in ‘for ever afters.’

7) Casper

The first “horror” movie that I was allowed to watch. Who can forget Christina Ricci as a teenager moving into a new house that is inhabited by a ‘friendly ghost’ Casper? A fun family film that is a joy to watch on any ‘movie night’.
