She’s 22. And she’s done it again. ‘Red’ by Taylor Swift is sky-rocketing up the charts, and my curiosity got the better of me. I’m not one to buy into all this “girl-power”, so to say, but when you hear a song, EVERYWHERE you go, you give in. At least I do.

So here’s the real deal on what I thought of ‘Red’. It’s 100% girly and 200% cutesy. Yup, pretty much the only words I can use to describe the album. It’s the sort of album I can imagine “totally connecting with”… when I was 13. Take, for example, the record-breaking track ‘We Are Never Ever Get Back Together’. I mean, how cute is this song — don’t you wanna just get into your PJs, jump around on your bed and sing it at the top of your lungs, all the while imagining that creep of an ex-boyfriend? It totally brings out the teenage girl in me — is that so bad?

Adolescent or adult, one song that’s definitely worth a listen is ‘The Last Time’, featuring Gary Lightbody, from Snow Patrol. Not sure who gets the credit with this one – but what a song!

And then we’ve got ‘Begin Again’ – ah, the lifelong story of all single girls out there. Am I wrong?

All in all, Taylor has laid it all out on the table with this one – ‘Red’ is a mixed bag of emotions, and refreshingly, of sounds, She has strayed away from her usual country sounds, with a few of the tracks – and you know what, it’s not all that bad.  Overall, it’s clear that this is Taylor’s post-break-up, I’ll-get-over-you album. And we all go through that, don’t we? So kudos to her for putting it to music. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.
