Soon after Mary Kom won an Olympic medal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that he would be producing a film based on her life, to be directed by Omang Kumar. Back then, they had hoped to zero in on a name within a few days, but up until recently, no name seemed to be finalized – except, rumours are now doing the rounds that Priyanka Chopra may have bagged the role!
Apparently, PC has been approached for the film, but she has not yet agreed to jump on board as she is still reading the script. Katrina Kaif is another name doing the rounds, but Priyanka may have a slight edge considering she and Sanjay have wanted to work together ever since she was first approached for his Ram Leela (even though she wasn’t signed on eventually). The Mary Kom film is to go on floors around March or April, so either way, the makers will need to finalize on a name soon.
