“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing aloud for all to hear,” – this simple line is what brought Meldan D’Cunha, his family and friends together, to form a caroling group, The Swingin’ Santas, who promise to make your Christmas bright and cheerful with their lovely renditions of popular Christmas songs and carols.
“A tradition that is slowly dying is now being revived by us,” says Meldan. “Four families have taken time out to practice in four voices for the last one month to go caroling through the lanes of Mahim and Bandra (in Mumbai) on Thursday 20 December from 7 pm onwards,” he adds.
Last year the group was received with such enthusiasm where the ladies offered them Christmas sweets and families sang along and joined them along the way. This has given the group a renewed sense of exuberance to repeat the performance this year as well and spread the feeling of brotherhood and love.
The Swingin’ Santas will also perform at Soul Fry Casa on Wednesday 19 December where they will sing traditional carols along with popular Christmas songs at Casa’s Carol Nite from 9 pm onwards.
The songs that they will be singing are: Silent Night, O Come all ye faithful, Angels we have heard on high, Mary’s Boy Child, Let it snow, Feliz Nevidad, Blue Christmas, Jingle Bells and Rudolf the red-nose reindeer.
In Mahim the route will be: Sitladevi Temple Road, Mahim Station, Canossa Convent Road, Cadell Road and Shivaji Park (next to Barista/Cafe Coffee Day)
In Bandra West, they will cover: St Paul’s Road, St Cyril’s Road, St Andrew’s Road, Demonte Park Road, Veronica Street, Mount Carmel Road and Perry Cross Road.
Feel free to join them as they go caroling through the by-lanes of Bombay and take your friends along too.
