Salman Khan
Salman Khan

No matter what you think of him, there’s no denying that Sallu is Sallu – there’s nobody who can compete with the kind of love, adulation and unwavering support that he receives. He’s cemented his top spot over the years with some memorable roles, playing the kind of characters that strike a chord with the masses time and again. To celebrate Bhai‘s 47th birthday, let’s have a look at some of his best characters throughout the years – and be sure to add your favourites to the list!

1. Prem; Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain.

The Sooraj Barjatya version of Prem is probably my favourite Salman character ever – he’s practically the same in all the movies, but it doesn’t matter. There’s something about that sweet, shy and slightly naughty boy that made Prem – and Salman – famous in the 90s. Till date, the 90s version of Salman Khan remains my favourite, and all the credit of that goes to the character of Prem!

2. Prem; Andaaz Apna Apna.

Salman played Prem again for Andaaz Apna Apna, but it was a completely different type of character this time around. AAA remains a hot favourite in the MissMalini office, and you shouldn’t be surprised if you randomly hear us throw out a dialogue in everyday conversation.

3. Raja; Judwa.

I have no shame in admitting that I absolutely loved Judwa. It’s one of my guilty pleasures and the film I’ll pull out when I really want some mindless comedy. Salman cracks me up in this one, both as Raja and Prem (yes, again) – but mostly as Raja, ’cause he’s absolutely wacko as that character.

4. Sameer; Hum Dil De Chukhe Sanam.

“Sameer… hawa ka jhoka.” I feel bad for every guy who is named Sameer, ’cause 1999 must’ve been a rough year with everyone pulling out that line on him. But I loved Sallu in HDDCS, even in all his OTT madness.

5. Chulbul Pandey; Dabangg, Dabangg 2.

And who could forget Chulbul Pandey? He popularized everything from aviators to the belt dance step, and is arguably the most famous of all Salman Khan characters!
