Priyanka Chopra received rave reviews for her performance in Barfi!, and Jhilmil Chatterjee will perhaps forever be amongst her most iconic characters. On The Front Row with Anupama Chopra this week, she speaks about how she and director Anurag Basu created the look of Jhilmil. Here’s an excerpt from the show!
Priyanka Chopra says: “I spent a lot of time with autistic kids in workshops. We went to schools, I videotaped them the way I wanted, to see how they laugh, when they laugh what makes them laugh. I had a lot of help from people who I know as well who gave me information. I read a lot and then Jhilmil got created. For example, we decided on short hair because autistic kids don’t know how to look after their hair. So Anurag said let us just keep it short and when I was a kid I had curly hair. So I showed him a picture of me as a baby and he said, ‘This is it!’ and that is how we made her hair.”
