At just 24, Anushka Sharma has been making quite the name for herself in Bollywood – she’s been climbing the charts as of late, and 2013’s looking like a good year for her already, what with the release of Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Bombay Velvet and Peekay. She recently appeared on The Front Row with Anupama Chopra, where she discussed the 100cr club and how it is currently the best time to be an actress. Read on for the excerpts!
Anupama Chopra: Anushka, how much does the box-office and the entire discussion about the 100 Cr club weigh on you as an actor when selecting roles?
Anushka Sharma: Actually I don’t know if an actress gains anything from a 100 crore film. I am not sure. Do they? So that is why it would never be the reason for me to do a film. For me, the reason would always be the role that I am being offered.
Anupama Chopra: Every actress I interviewed in the last year said this is the best time to be an actress, do you agree?
Anushka Sharma: Absolutely, I do. I think that films like Kahaani and The Dirty Picture have been accepted because you don’t really need a man to entertain you. You just need a good story and people are accepting that story. I think that reassurance for the actress is very important. That’s why it’s a time when you can be a bit fearless. It’s a great time!
