The menfolk have it easy during the awards season, non? They don’t need to stress themselves out for months about coming up with a winning fashion risk or creating a fashion statement when they step on to the red carpet. All they’re expected to do is turn up looking well-groomed in a dinner suit/suit that fits them right. That is, they’re expected to play by the well-set rules – and yet, many fail, spectacularly. Here are the ones who got it wrong at this year’s Golden Globes red carpet… 😉
George Clooney
Oh George, how you disappointed me! I expect you to get black-tie dressing right in your sleep − and you do this? How could you leave your jacket hanging like that? How could you step out in trousers that are not hemmed?
Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig, seriously, what were you thinking sporting those shades at the red carpet? Never again! And, your trouser hem could have gone up an inch or a half. *tut*tut*
Jon Hamm
I expect nothing less than sartorial perfection from Jon Hamm, so I can’t get past the bunching around his ankles.
Robert Downey Jr
Robert Downey Jr’s velvet shawl-collar dinner jacket, by Giorgio Armani, was lush, but he ruined the look with those trousers, which were crying out for some tapering, and the wing-tip collar shirt. Wing-tips are for white-tie dressing and for waiters!!!
Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck’s midnight blue peak lapel, one-button dinner jacket, made-to-order by Gucci, was gorgeous! He even threw in a waistcoat for good measure – oh bless! − but forgot to hem them trousers.
Bradley Cooper
Bradley Cooper he was doing good at the red carpet, actually. He was flying the flag for Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge, wearing a one-button, peak lapel dinner suit, made-to-order by Tom Ford from eco-friendly materials. All very well, but the trousers could’ve gone up a bit, and the bow tie could’ve been bigger, as the small one was jarring against the broad lapels.
Quentin Tarantino
Black-on-black is bad enough, but at least fix that bloody tie, Tarantino! This look is as sloppy as it can get.
Ryan Seacrest
Ryan Seacrest’s three-piece charcoal grey three-piece dinner suit with contrasting lapels, by Burberry Tailoring, was fine, but with a better fit of the trousers, he would’ve been the best-dressed of the night.
