Mr. Barnes has wielded his brushes on celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Beyonce and most notably Jennifer Lopez. He birthed the new monochromatic look featuring bronze skin and pale lips. Nicknamed the Glow – it helped launch his body bling bronzer. Now he exclusively tells MissMalini what make-up to sport at the McDowells Signature Premier Indian Derby.

What do those celebrities all have in common that people are raving about lately? How are they different?

Now lucky for you, that question was rhetorical. Because chances are, over half of you failed or we’d all be walking around looking like our favorite celebrities. They have a glow! They look alive! Young and healthy! They radiate. These are all characteristics we’re dying to know how to capture and imitate. So here it is. The answer is simple: We have to figure out what works, FOR YOU! Not J.Lo. Not Kim Kardashian. Not Priyanka Chopra. You! And second, we have to figure out first and foremost, what features are your best features? So as you sit there, keep in mind, what features are your favorite in your face, and what features could you probably live without (if only it wouldn’t look like you had half a face).

I want to encourage you this year to accept what you have and accentuate it. Be proud of what you’re working with. Vibrancy starts inside. Use makeup as a tool to really give you an edge. Bring out those pretty eyes, and those luscious lips. Do it and stay posted because there’s more to come ladies at the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby 2013. See me in action as I work my magic on special VIP guests at the Derby and give them a makeover.

So for all the beautiful women out there, who wish to attend the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby 2013, don a look that is not too over dramatic. You want to look like a lady. A lady of good standing and stature. You’re going for a character here! That’s the reason we all get dressed up to go to the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby 2013! Of course, as always, choose a foundation that is simple and not too dark. You can go a little glam to pronounce your eyes but too far and you’re doing too much. Lips? Go nude with a gloss.

The McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby is all about going back to the basics. The classics! You’re looking for smooth porcelain tones and simple yet elegant eyes and lips. Fleshy tones and strong eyes. No smoke! Generally, you’re wearing an outfit and/or hat that is already saying a lot.

You can still apply a good amount of makeup and not look “overly done”, the trick here is to use tones that aren’t so “in your face”. But again, you’re going as a character, so some of you may be planning an all black outfit with wide-brimmed hat and your darkest pair of YSL shades. In that case, I would suggest a bright red lip. At the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby, this is bad girl vs. classy woman. First choose who you want to be. Then apply your makeup accordingly!
