It’s not all gossip and fun that we blog about. Sometimes we use this powerful platform to spread awareness about important topics – such as breast cancer. A cause close to our hearts. Which is why we were pleased to hear that swimwear designers Shivan & Narresh have designed a special mastectomy blouse that they unveiled at Design One recently.
Shivan & Narresh say, “As a proud Indian intimate brand we were aware of the most innate reasons why women in India feel less confident about their bodies and suffer from low self esteem. The ‘Mastectomy Blouse for All’ was our tool to give back a cosmetic solution to the cause as we felt it was neccesary when dealing with the society, which can often be insensitive with a frivolous outlook towards beauty. The R&D behind the development of this blouse was rooted in the innate understanding of the Indian body type which we have developed over the past 6 years in developing the correct contouring bodice blocks for the unique Indian anatomy.”

The blouse is built-in with a prosthetic breast and specially formulated for the Indian woman. What’s more is that it is aimed to be free of cost for all women through collaborations with corporates & NGOs. The aim is to reach out to women in rural as well as urban India. The blouse is a prelude to the mastectomy swimwear service that the brand is developing presently.

“This skill of the correct cut, contour & construction is what we wanted to donate in this cause so that every women has a right to wear a blouse with an inbuilt prosthetic breast that fits right. This knowledge was then amalgamated to find a solution to the cause by creating a blouse – something so close to women across the country, some of whom are not even exposed to the idea of bras – that can be accepted easily by women and aids in their fight with cancer in a more confident manner. We want this mastectomy blouse to reach each and every village & town where probably women can not even afford a bra but can now wear a blouse that acts as a shield of empowerment. For this initiative, we would like to ask for support of NGOs and corporates working  towards the cause to help us reach maximum women and fight this cause at all levels of the society.” says the duo.

Super initiative guys – keep it up!
