It’s no secret that Akshay Kumar was incredibly close to his dad, the late Hari Om Bhatia – even his production house has been named after him, Hari Om Entertainment. And now Akki has decided to start something else under his dad’s name: a cancer shelter specifically for policemen. Here’s what the inspiration was.
Years ago, when his dad – an ex-armyman – was undergoing chemotherapy at Tata Memorial Hospital, Akshay would notice that several policemen who were going through similar treatments would face trouble with their stay/food arrangements. The image stuck with him and he’s now decided to pay tribute to his dad by starting his own project, the Hari Om Cancer Shelter. He recently inaugurated the centre, which will allow policemen to access food and air-conditioned rooms with TV sets for 400rs a month.
