The models at designer Manish Malhotra’s show at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week will wear their Threads Of Emotion on their sleeve as the designer debuts his autumn/winter collection. This line is extravagantly embellished with phulkari and bagh embroidery, which are native to Punjab.
Since Manish enjoys promoting Indian craftsmanship, this collection is a tool to popularize this local craft on an international level, as well. Says Manish, “The idea is to promote thread work from Punjab and focus on craftsmanship and showcase it at various fashion weeks by roping in celebrities, thus making it more popular and in turn influencing more people to wear these handcrafted pieces.”
The collection features large old-world style shawls, saris, floor length anarkalis and angarakhas. For men, there are bandhgalas and structured clothes. The primary fabrics used are georgette, net and raw-silk in autumn/winter colors like rich mustard yellow, navy blue, deep rust, earthy olive and intense red.
Take a look at some of Manish’s famous anarkali creations and other designs from over the years: his Indian wear has always made the desi girl an eternal #BeYOUNG icon!
Manish’s show will be held on March 15th at 9pm.
