It’s amazing to see the wide range of topics MissMalini.com caters to, and this time she has been gracious enough to let me on board so that we can make sure you all still look pretty and recognizable after a mad, colourful day of Holi!

I strongly believe that if you are playing Holi or jumping into fire for that matter, you got to do it full swing, without hesitation, with the right preventive measures. It’s not about limiting the enjoyment, it’s about being fully prepared for it!

So before you step out of the house and drench yourself in colours, check the following on your list.

1) Oil every part of your skin – olive oil or coconut oil are great options. After 20 minutes, apply your regular sunscreen generously on all tan sensitive areas, especially the face, neck and hands.

2) We have laughed it off a zillion times when our grannies said it but oiling your hair is a must-do on your list on this day. Oil acts as a barrier between the colour and your hair, and makes its removal easier in the shower later. Extremely important if you have coloured hair!

3) I have personally hated stained nails post Holi and the best solution is to not keep them bare. Apply a transparent coat or any coloured nail paint on your finger and toe nails to make sure the colour doesn’t stain your nails.

4) Wear cotton clothes with long sleeves if possible and full length tracks or leggings. The more skin area you cover, the less chances of colour staining and tanning.

5) Avoid any skin or hair treatment right before Holi. Raw skin may react differently to the assault of colours than healthy, intact skin.

Last but not least, once you have taken these precautions, step out and stop fretting about the effects of colours. All you have to do is have a good time and be safe!
