I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – Ekta Kapoor is one smart filmmaker, and the fact that she holds her own as the only female studio head in Bollywood is testament to that. She appears as a guest on The Front Row this week – along with Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin – where Anupama asked her if she feels a responsibility to create roles for women. Here’s what she said!

Anupama Chopra: Ekta, as the only female studio head in Bollywood, do you feel a responsibility? Do you feel the pressure to create roles for women?

Ekta Kapoor: I think it is great fun for me to do strong female parts in films and get those kind of films out because I personally believe that actresses in this industry are more practical when it comes to their cost in doing a film. They actually make great business sense because they work much harder. I am not doing it just because we want to live up to a social responsibility. I think our audiences are maturing to fresher stories. So I thank them more than anyone else. I think it is great fun being the only female studio head.

Anupama: Are the heroes overpriced?

Ekta: Hugely.
