What: An art show by the Ex-students of the Society for the Education of the Crippled (SEC), Mumbai.
Where: 7-9th June, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.
Now here’s why…

Society for the Education of the Crippled (SEC) educates and rehabilitates children and adults with physical and multiple disabilities from a low economic background with the aim of making them productive members of society.

After the tremendous success of their first ever show in 2010, the Ex-Students of SEC now present their second show Living Their Dreams, being held at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai from 7th to 9th June 2013.

About this show:

This show has been put together by 7 ex-students of SEC with physical disabilities. These students have completed their education at our school. They have put together a collection of paintings, inspired by various artists.

Bandenawaz Nadaf (26 years) was born with a congenital anomaly. He has no arms. Today Bandenawaz is a painter. He paints with his feet. Bandenawaz participated in ‘From the shadows to the limelight’ in 2010. With the money he earned through sale of his paintings he bought a small home in Sholapur.

Shahanawaz Shaikh (19 years) was a year old when he contracted poliomyelitis, after taking the polio vaccine. Since the last art exhibition, he was integrated into a regular school Patuk Technical School and was greatly recognized for his talent in art. He also developed his dancing skills at SEC through Shiamak Davar’s classes. Today he has works in Shiamak Davar’s dance classes as an assistant teacher.

Sunil Darekar (22 years) was 2 years old when he contracted poliomyelitis. He went to various doctors and had corrective surgeries. After the exhibition from the Shadows to the Limelight, he has gained confidence and self worth. This exhibition has fired his ambition to paint more. He is studying in NIOS and has to appear for 3 more subjects in October.

Rahim Khan (25 years) was 10 months old when he contracted poliomyelitis. He was always good in Art and came out first in the Art exam. He is a born artist. He also enjoys cricket. He has won prizes in sports but is more inclined towards art.

Haseeb Chaudhary (21 years) was 6 months old he contracted poliomyelitis. After the last exhibition From the Shadows to the Limelight, he is now studying to be a civil draftsman. He plans to do a course in Autocad.

Shubham Rajshekar Paitti (18 years) has Arthogryphosis Multiplex Congenita with dwarf and multiple congenital deformity. Shubham is an orphan and lives with his grandmother and maternal uncle. Before the exhibition from the Shadows to the limelight he was not given any care at home. Today, he is now treated as a respected contributing member of the family. He has just finished his SSC exam and is awaiting the results.

Nitin Bhise (33 years) contracted poliomyelitis when he was one year old. He says God has given me more than others. He has given me a positive mind and talent. More than one’s legs it’s their positive attitude and talent that gets them places. Now he supports his family and is planning to get married.
