As the mourning continues for Jiah Khan, more details are emerging about the events leading up to her untimely death. While police initially struggled to break into her password protected phone, media reports indicate they have now successfully retrieved messages sent to her by ex-boyfriend Suraj Pancholi, in which he accused her of making his “life a prison” by “spying on him” shortly before she hung herself. The language of the SMS is being described as “abusive.” An unnamed family friend says the two had gotten into an argument earlier in the week when Suraj was unable to see Jiah after she had called him over. Suraj cited an appointment with his family jeweler as the reason, but according to the source Jiah called the jeweler who referenced a different meeting time. Jiah then accused Suraj of lying so he could meet another girl, at which point an argument broke out. Jiah was found deceased shortly after.
In other developments, it is being reported that Jiah had previously attempted to take her own life by slitting her wrists, at which time she called Suraj. As he was not nearby, Suraj called on a friend to take care of her. He also reached out to Jiah’s mother in London, who subsequently flew out to Mumbai to stay with her.
Jiah and Suraj are said to have started dating in early 2012, but mutually broke things off less than a year later. According to Suraj, Jiah started messaging and calling him frantically on June 3rd, depressed that she had not landed a film role from an audition in Hyderabad and suspicious that he was dating another actress. When they finally spoke late that night, Suraj suggested that she get some sleep and that they would meet the next day. Sadly, by then it would be too late.
